Graphic designer by trade. Artist when nobody's stopping me. Based in Finland, somewhere between blackletter and brutalism. This is the long version of the why.
Studio on Paper is the name, and I mean it two ways at once.
There's paper the material — ink, prints, posters, things with weight you can actually hold. And there's “on paper” the phrase: as in “on paper, that shouldn't work,” the thing people say right before they tell you not to try. This is the room where I drag ideas from one to the other. Theory, into ink.
I've been told not to bother a staggering number of times. That it's stupid. That it makes no sense. That it can't be done — or shouldn't, or not like that. For a while I believed the math of it: enough people say “you can't,” and it starts doing quiet work in the back of your head, whether you let it or not.
Here's what I've actually learned. The thing that only works on paper usually works fine once I make it real. I learn fast. I can make a frankly ridiculous number of things work when I decide to. Secondhand “it won't work” has never once been good enough for me — I have to try it myself first to see if it does. And most of the time? It does.
So I built somewhere to do exactly that. No algorithm. No likes. No comments. No one reading over my shoulder, deciding whether it was worth making before I'd even finished it. Some of what lands here is polished. Most of it isn't. Some of it is, according to my own insanely self-critical brain, just bad — and it goes up anyway, because the fun was never in being liked. It was in finding out.
So, here is my own space where I can try out all the things I'm not supposed to. And very few people who might actually end up reading this need to take anything they find here personally. It is most often just plain old me who is my own worst enemy.
I'm still figuring out what I love to make. That's allowed. That's the point. Watch me.
A running diary of whatever's got me right now — the styles, the type pairings, the little scraps they spawn. It changes. That's the fun. Scroll down to watch my taste argue with itself over time.
Some of these are available as prints. DM me on Instagram if you want one on your wall — or just to say hi. No sales pitch, no pressure.
